Tom's Matrix Community - Community Guidelines

These guidelines primarily apply to the Matrix space #space:tomfos.tr and all related rooms. It may also be used by other Matrix rooms as appropriate.

This community aims to be welcoming and constructive for everyone. As the administrator and moderator, I maintain these spaces on a best-endeavours basis. This means I'll try my best to be fair and see all sides of an issue, but as this is volunteer-run, I may need to make moderation decisions quickly.

Community Guidelines

Do's

  • Be respectful of different viewpoints and experiences
  • Communicate constructively even when disagreeing
  • Use inclusive language that makes everyone feel welcome
  • Give people the benefit of the doubt before jumping to conclusions
  • Accept feedback gracefully when it's offered in good faith

Things to Avoid

  • Argumentative behaviour that derails conversations
  • Personal attacks or focusing criticism on people rather than ideas
  • Offensive language or imagery that makes others uncomfortable
  • Spamming or flooding channels with excessive content
  • Harassment in public or private channels

Moderation Approach

As the community admin, I'll address issues as they arise, but note:

  • Moderation is done on a volunteer basis
  • I may need to mute/kick/ban without lengthy discussion if behaviour is clearly disruptive
  • Repeated problematic behaviour after warnings will lead to removal
  • I'll try to explain moderation decisions when possible, but can't guarantee extensive justification in all cases

Reporting Issues

If you experience problems in any of my Matrix rooms:

The Bottom Line

The goal is to maintain spaces where people can collaborate and discuss topics constructively. Moderation decisions are made with this goal in mind, not to enforce arbitrary rules. I aim to be reasonable, but my primary responsibility is to the health of the community as a whole.
